GETHSEMANE WOMEN OF THE ELCA
As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm out gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.
WELCA at Gethsemane has a quilting group that meets every first Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the music room. One of ministries the quilters support is Lutheran World Relief mission quilts program.
The Mary/Martha unit is a WELCA group which meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 9:30 a.m. for program and refreshments.
GETHSEMANE MEN IN MISSION
Coffee, devotions and conversation begins 9 a.m. on the third Thursday of the month followed by a tour of area attractions and lunch with return to Gethsemane by 1:30 p.m. It helps to clothe men in a suit of God’s armor as they live the message of the Gospel in daily activities.

BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY
The Bereavement Ministry is an important part of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church Community. We serve members of our church family by serving food and drinks before or after the memorial service of their loved one. There is an extended arm of the ministry and they are the willing folks that make sandwiches, cookies, cakes, and provide fruit and veggies for us to serve. We don’t have regular meetings, but do spend time on the phone after the pastor has notified one of the co-chairs of a death in our church family. There is always a need for additional people (women and men) to assist in the kitchen getting ready for the event and also a need for more people to assist with providing the food.

GLADOFFF
Due to the pandemic, GLADOFFF is on hiatus. Gethsemane Lutheran Adults Dining Out for Food, Fun, and Fellowship meets the second Tuesday of each month at various restaurants. We provide an opportunity for adults to get together to have a good time, have an opportunity to try new restaurants, and to get to know one another better.
LUTHERAN COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES/SEMINARIES
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has a strong emphasis on education with a network of colleges, universities and seminaries. Our closest ELCA university is Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas, and many Gethsemane members have attended. Eight ELCA seminaries are the graduate training schools for pastors. Seminarians receive a college degree before being admitted to seminary. Gethsemane has served as a site where seminary interns have a special year of training to prepare them for parish experiences. Gethsemane is a close partner with the University of Texas -Austin Campus Ministry, and there are many active ELCA campus ministries around the United States.
